We have remodeled and redecorated our rooms and cabin with a Southwestern motif that is sure to be comfortable for our guests. We are a family run business who hopes to create a place of peace for you to enjoy. We offer spectacular views of an outdoor paradise in a beautifully serene area.

About the Lake Roberts Area

Lake Roberts opened in 1963 and is a 72 acre man made lake. It was named in memory of Austin A. Roberts, by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.
Lake Roberts is fed by the Sapillo Creek. The lake has rainbow trout, crappie, bass and catfish.

There is a boat ramp and docks. Fishing boats are limited to electric trolling motors. Canoes, kayaks, paddle boating and sail boats are also welcomed on the lake. Fishing from docks, boats or the shore is allowed.
Along with the lake, there are also 500 miles of quality fishing streams, a true fishermen's haven!

Hikers can choose to hike around the lake, the Continental Divide Trail, or the Gila wilderness on hundreds of miles of trails.
Near Lake Roberts there is a special nature trail and self-interpretive Mimbres Indian site which is worth exploring.

The Lake Roberts area is home to hundreds of bird species. During the winter bald eagles make this area home. In the summer thousands of hummingbirds flock to the area. During migration there may be as many as ten different species of hummingbirds visiting Lake Roberts!

Lake Roberts is full of wildlife, such as deer, elk, antelope, bear, turkey, and moutain lions, making this a hunters paradise.

The Southwestern New Mexico area is also a great rock hounding area. Agate, obsidian, fluorite, copper, zeolites, jasper, gold and moonstones are just a few specimens that can be found in the area. Stop by a rock shop or contact a local rock club for information about the best locations for rock hounding.

History of the Area

Mongollon Indians occupied this area more than 800 years ago. By the 1200s, the Mongollons no longer lived here and the Pueblo dwellers occupied the area. And while the Pueblo dwellers also lived in the open as did the Mongollon Indians, they also lived in five of the seven caves above the stream level. By about 1300, the Pueblos moved on and abandoned the cliff dwellings. Much later, the Apaches used the area until the American homesteaders arrived. The last Apache who lived in the Gila area had left by 1900.

Geronimo was born at the headwaters of the Gila river, near the cliff dwellings in 1829. He was a member of a small group of the Chiricahuas, the Bedonkohes.

Billy the Kid (William H. Bonney or Henry McCarty) was one of the most notorious bad boys of the Old West. History is not clear when he was born or his birth name. No actual accounts exist on how many men Billy the Kid killed or how old he was when he died. He lived in Silver City during a time when life was dangerous, and without a doubt became the infamous Billy the Kid.

Hole in the Wall Gang worked for The WS Ranch as ranch hands under assumed names during the time they laying low after robbing many trains. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were members of the Hole in the Wall Gang. Butch used the name of Jim Lowe, and it was alleged that the gang made good cowboys who did their job well.

Silver City, New Mexico was founded in 1870, as a tent city when gold and silver was discovered locally. Here you can find Billy The Kid's family cabin, his mother's grave, and the Star Hotel where Billy The Kid once worked.
While visiting Silver City, other points of interest are, The Silver City Museum, Fort Bayard (just east of Silver City), art galleries, shopping, and restaurants.  Silver City is located about one hour south of Lake Roberts.
